La Paz - New Thematic Experimental Music From Afton Light

La Paz Album Art

Today marks the release of a brand new album now available on all streaming platforms. La Paz is an album of experimental music produced and recorded by Afton Light between January and March of 2024. The seven songs are conceived as a result of a very personal journey and ultimately created as a dedication to the muse that has for me become the city of La Paz, Bolivia. Here I decided to spend the first few months of 2024 for the sole purpose of re-engaging my creativity and to seek purpose in a life that has for so long revolved around accumulation rather than creation. I hoped to regain some of what I feared to have lost to a series of redundancies in my life and boy did I find what I was looking for.

As a temporary resident of Bolivia, and in particular La Paz, I have felt an overwhelming acceptance of the art I make and have here managed to connect with and befriend many fantastic musicians, artists, and creators. That is why I decided to dedicate the creative process to this muse of concrete, cobblestone, and mystique that I happened upon right in the heart of the Andes.

All songs are inspired by and contain parts of the city itself as I experienced it and as such are named accordingly. Here I have attempted to capture this city with my field recording equipment and use these recordings as the foundation for each song. I have been aided and supported by new friends along the way. Many of which played an important role as inspiration, by providing feedback, or by lending me various instruments when in need. I recorded, mixed, and mastered the whole album while sitting in a kitchen and common room at a wonderful hostel in Sopocachi. I found an abundance of inspiration, beauty, and love in the process itself and I hope this is properly reflected in the final product as presented to you.

The artwork bears the colors of the Bolivian flag and thereby intends to complete the cycle of the central theme and the main protagonist of the album as a whole.

I have truly and thoroughly enjoyed creating La Paz and I have rediscovered a part of my creative drive from the process as well as its thematic subject and its inhabitants. For this, I am eternally grateful. I hope that what I made can pass on some joy or that it should provide inspiration for further creation by others elsewhere. Beyond my own satisfaction with my work, I believe this is all I could wish for.

Please follow the links below to listen or find La Paz available on any of your favorite streaming services.

I would also greatly appreciate it if you followed me wherever you find me, hit like wherever you can, and perhaps even listened to my other work. It helps tremendously for a small independent artist such as myself.
